On Friday, Tyler Bradley Dykes pleaded guilty to two felony charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers (in violation of 18 US Code § 111) and agreed his use of a police riot shield constituted a dangerous weapon. Use of the riot shield may incur enhanced penalties.
The Daily Beast reported that the defendant completed serving a felony sentence for bearing a torch at the violent 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, VA. All of these factors will be considered when Senior US District Court Judge Beryl Howell, a President Obama nominated jurist, sentences Tyler Bradley Dykes on 19 July 2024, in Washington, DC. Her Honor has been an outspoken critic of the uneven Justice Department approach to January 6 prosecutions.
